Screen Printing

Screen printing, also known as Serigraphy, is a method of creating an image on paper, fabric or some other object by pressing  printing ink through a screen with areas blocked off by a stencil or film applied to the screen.

The design is first inked on clear plastic sheets ( acetate), each colour on a different sheet, then the inked sheets are placed on prepared screens (painted with a photo sensitive emulsion) and "burned" on a light box. After a period of time on the light box, the screen is removed and the mesh washed out with water. The areas with the black India ink on the acetate (the design) will have resulted in open mesh through which the coloured paints, or inks, are being squeezed with a squeegee.

The technique is used both for making fine art prints and for commercial applications, such as printing a company's logo.

Sportline Clothing offers top of the line screen printing services on caps, t-shirts and Oxford style shirts.
